I read a quote this week that said something to the effect of, “Every single virtue carries with it the seed of its own downfall.” The more I have thought about that, the more I agree and can even relate to it.

Oswald Chambers said it like this: your undefended strength is a double weakness. This means that every pro about you also has a con. Every strength you have that you don’t protect can be a bigger weakness.

This may be descriptive of you:

Your Strength: You possess bravery. Your Potential Weakness: You could act with stupidity.

Your Strength: You are tactful. Your Potential Weakness: You are more tempted to be untruthful.

Your Strength: As a youth leader, you relate well to students. Your Potential Weakness: You could easily give up your position of authority in their eyes because you’re just a friend.

Your Strength: You are passionate. Your Potential Weakness: You wear your emotions on your sleeves.

This is a simple, yet vital lesson the Lord is teaching me these days – The greatest personality traits you possess have the potential to make you everything the Lord wants you to be, but they also have the potential to ruin your life.

This means that, if you don’t guard these strengths of yours – the ones that others look up to, that others recognize as God-given talents, the things that come easily to you – if you don’t constantly submit these to the Lord, your heart will become incredibly vulnerable to Satan’s schemes in your life.

Submit every strength you have to the power and control of Jesus Christ. Without doing that, you’ll be a shell of the person God has called you to be.

God is using every strength, talent, and gift you have as a tool in His hands to win the nations back to the King and to exalt Himself. You are going to be a light to TONS of people all around you and walk into every situation today as a powerful ambassador of Christ…IF…your energy and heart is directed toward Jesus.

Pray for sincerity today. Guard your strengths…don’t let them become double weaknesses. Walk worthy of the calling God has placed on your life.
