Let me give it to you right out of the gate this morning: If everybody in the world thinks you’re knocking it out of the park, but you’re not living up to what God has called you to do, you’re not living up to who you’re called to be. Everybody around you could think you’re the greatest thing ever, you’re more gifted than anybody else, and that you couldn’t lead better in the eyes of man…BUT…if God says you lack, guess which one is true (just read the Parable of the Talents).
See the truth is that what we do is not nearly as important as what we are called to do by God. And I have to tell you how comforting that is to me! When you look at life with that reality in mind, it no longer matters how much people brag on you or tell you how great you are – there’s no longer a need to compare yourself to anybody. How FREEING is that?!?
And it’s also an amazing challenge for each of us – whose approval do you seek more, God’s or man? Who are you ministering for, God or man? If everybody else thinks you’re the best thing ever and you KNOW that God has measured you and you lack, His opinion is the ultimate opinion you need to care about.
If you hit the mark, but its not the one God wants you to hit, then what good is that? Don’t miss THE RIGHT mark. What good is it if you’re great at something that doesn’t matter? The results in your life don’t matter nearly as much as WHO you’re faithful to and WHAT He’s called you to do. Don’t listen to public opinion – even when it’s on your side – nearly as much as you listen for the voice of God prompting you in your life.
So this morning, figure some things out. Who are you living for? Are you faithful to what people expect of you more than what God expects? Are you settling for “better than everyone else,” when you’re fully missing what God has purposed just for you? God has a totally different measuring stick than the world – let your life be judged by Him, not those around you. Learn to hit the right mark.
