I have learned that there is a healthy tension in ministry that is beneficial to find. It’s healthy to dream big, to try new things, to push farther. I’m even completely fine with straight up failing at things because it means we were playing to win – we didn’t just go for the base hit, we were swinging for the fence! Mistakes are fine – feeling freedom to fail is great. Having the freedom to fail actually refreshes me and energizes me.
But I begin to frustrate myself when I make the same mistakes over and over again…when I fail in the same areas time after time after time. That’s when it changes from being bold to being irresponsible. From being full of faith to being full of excuses. And that’s when I begin to get frustrated with myself.
So, this morning as I was praying through that, maybe that same thought is helpful for you – don’t worry about mistakes in your life; in fact, welcome them because it’s a sign of you not settling, a sign of potentially great leadership and passion on your part. However, if you can evaluate your life and see consistent failures in the same area – you’re ALWAYS late to work, you NEVER finish the task, you are constantly OVER-promising and UNDER-delivering…then don’t be satisfied with that another day. Pray through it and fix it NOW.
Dream big, push hard – know that God can do immeasurably more than you can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20), and you’ll see God change the trajectory of your life. And in those times, when you make a mistake or fail, keep you head up and know that your faith is spot on. However, your life is too short to make the same mistakes over and over – learn from your mistakes, correct them, dust yourself off, and get back on the right track.
Let this week be full of mistakes – but one and done, then move on to the next opportunity.
