I got the opportunity recently to be part of E-Team training, which is made up of various teams of teenagers going for an extended experience on a mission field. After training and preparing for their trips with their team here in Nashville, each team heads out to their distinct mission field.

After these teams got back from their trips, I sat in on a few debriefing sessions and smiled as I listened time and time again as they said what I expected to hear them say: “I’ve always known this about God, but I didn’t really know it until this experience.” I love that! I think you can spend your entire life around God without ever really experiencing Him. You can be raised in Sunday School (flannelgraph and all), even go to Sunday night and Wednesday night church, and still wind up as a college student or adult having never really prayed, never really worshiped, never really knowing Christ.

What I love hearing in E-Team debriefing is the same thing I love hearing the Lord speak to me when I’m willing to go beyond merely talking about God or just attending, and I’m willing to be an active participant in the work of God.

I want to challenge you today to not settle to just know about God. Don’t just settle to be around the people of God, the adoration of God, and the power of God – make a passionate choice to truly KNOW Him. To know His grace that surpasses your sin, His peace that goes beyond human understanding, and to experience His power that can be unleashed in your life like nothing you could manufacture on your own.

Start today out with setting your heart on the things of God and truly getting to KNOW Him. Just something to think about this morning.
